  Hoping to get some direction. My buddy recently inherited all of his late-uncle’s possessions and asked me to help fix up the house and sell his things. There are a ton of books and the collection in question here is the complete collection of Louis L’Amour books. 122 I believe. They are all leather bound, deep pressed gold signature and I’ve seen some sets listed at around $700-1000. Are there any good places to get these appraised or does anyone here know anything about them? Thanks in advance.   I spent 20 years dealing in rare books. For the most part, children's books from this period are collectible because of the illustrator, and I don't recognize the name of this one. That's not to say no one is collecting her work, but it suggests she doesn't rise to the level of "really valuable." I would venture to say the $95 price you (or someone) found online is pretty optimistic, and $20-40 is probably ballpark. Having said that, based on the date and country of publication, the story might have themes (Judaica? Or its opposite, Anti-semitism) that could give it appeal to collectors of those genres, in which case, depending on scarcity, it could indeed be worth more. Nhaba.org is the web site of the New Hampshire Antiquarian Booksellers Association, and there's a list of dealers so you can find someone near you to offer an opinion. Or Books of Wonder in New York City are one of the country's leading specialists in children's books, so you could try them as well. Good luck!

  Anyone know of any appraisers who are able/qualified to appraise an Alice collection? Mine has around 200 pieces ranging from the late 1800s to present - mostly books, but also a few comics, books-on-vinyl-record, films, and other stuff.
