Hydron was engaged to plumb our entire house (PEX lines) for approx. $25k under a GC. I insisted on the CCDC 5B contract, which allowed me to see actual expenses (and exactly which trades the GC hired). If you are working with a GC, insist on knowing who is in your house. I got a bad feeling after our first city inspection when the inspector asked Hydron why they installed the basement drains the way they did and they couldn’t answer. So, he moved on and asked why they used the pipes they did, to which they said because they were on the truck that morning! He asked for a drain plan before leaving, came back for a follow-up inspection and asked for the plan again, noting that he was happy that at least HE didn’t have to live here (he didn’t know I was the homeowner). I followed up with inspector later and he said they he never received the drain plan.
There were key plumbing specifications from our architect that Hydron either missed or installed improperly as well. They were to install 1 PEX line per fixture but missed 3 lines. I had to drills holes into my ceiling, floor, walls and dig through insulation to provide them later with another contractor later. They installed our sewage ejector too close to a firewall for the required fire-proof drywall, so the inspector forced us to re-install the piping to accommodate the drywall. The sewage ejector wasn’t installed as per the manufacturer’s directions and was missing a union as well as a ball valve. Our specified cast iron main stack was installed with PVC instead. The specified basement shut-off was never installed.
We got through $16k in payments and ended up going with another contractor for the rest. I wasn’t going to post this review but I just visited their website and found photos of our house in their promo material, without our permission. (I’ve asked them to take them down).
Looking for a plumber to fix a leak under our kitchen sink that seems to lead to wetness in the basement. We had an amazing plumber but he's had to take a break for medical reasons unfortunately. Thanks for any leads!
