  Have friends that have used Nippon photo clinic before. Per their site it looks like they’re only accepting mail in service, but might be worth giving them a call 212-982-3177. Looks like the other main repair place, Photo tech, is doing service via shipping-only too. Their number is 212-673-8400. I’d call both places and see if they work on your model camera. Then I’d ask what their plans are for re-opening if you’re not comfortable mailing it in. Good luck!

My dad found his old Canon FTb in his attic and it seems to still work but needs a once over and a cleaning. I know almost nothing about cameras especially an old manual camera but would love to get it back into good working condition.

  That's awesome, the FTb was my first SLR, I still have it but haven't gotten to use it that much; for a while it was hard to find a battery that worked well but I think you can find them now on Amazon. There's a couple places you can get it checked out, I've used [Nippon Photo Clinic](http://nipponphotoclinic.com) (for my DSLRs) since it's closest to me but there's also [Photo Tech](https://phototech.com) which is highly regarded. Keep in mind that while it's a good camera, it may cost a lot more to fix it if there are issues, and it's often cheaper to get an AE-1 in good shape than trying fix an old one. Still I hope it works out for you, it's a solid camera! Good luck!

I used some superglue to hold it in before but even that’s failing now, so I think I need a pro to fix it.   The only time I've gotten a camera repaired was from http://nipponphotoclinic.com/ near Bryant Park. Pro - They did a great job and the camera is in terrific shape. Con - Not exactly cheap.

  Yesterday my Google ninja skills led me to one Wista repair and parts person who unfortunately passed away I think in 2012 but his inventory of parts were bought by this other company in NYC that is apparently the main U.S. authorized service center for both Wista and Linhof. I'm going to stop in at their location in the coming weeks to see if I can get the handle and a few other parts I need.   A dear friend who teaches at the School of Visual Arts also recommends Nippon Photo Clinic, (212) 982-3177, and I've certainly experienced good, reasonably-priced service there. However, try searching for the symptoms on fixya.com - last time my camera stopped working, I found it was simply a question of cleaning dust out of the A/V output, which I had never used. I found this, relevant to your problem: Let's force the flash to fire: Install fresh batteries. Turn on flash, do not connect to camera Wait until flash is ready Get a small wire with insulation and strip both ends about 1/8". With one end of the bare wire lead, touch/hold CENTER TIP Contact(silver pin from flash). Make sure flash head is not pointing at your face. With other end touch bare wire to OUTSIDE Contact (silver on outside of hot shoe that rides into camera hot shoe rails-this is ground). Flash should fires, gets a flash out of the flash tube. If not, you have flash problems. You most likely hurt the flash by using the dome filter on top of flash. Over 80% photographers are doing this way when shooting flash photography. And 95% for wedding photographers. This will shorten the life of the flash. Even more with that adapter parked onto the flash.
