I had several issues w/ Two Leaves: they sent my contract 4 times because they kept losing it; it took them 3 months to get my initial labs from my original OBGYN; we had to remind them multiple times that I have Celiac Disease; I saw them a total of maybe 5 times before I was 37 weeks; whenever I had labs they would never call me to give me my results I always had to call them. The ultrasound tech said I needed to f/u in 8 weeks but Liz had no idea what I was talking about & said it wasn't necessary. We asked what they would do if I went past my due date & they said we would cross that road when we came to it. Once I passed my due date I asked again & was told they would wait until I was 42-43 weeks before they would do anything; they told us that if something were to happen after the baby was born they had incubators (we never saw these). We did the student program and always saw a different person which is not what we were told would happen; there was no doula and I wasn’t told until I was 39 weeks; Their communication is terrible! When I went into labor they told me that they couldn’t do a membrane sweep because of some scar tissue in my cervix from a cone biopsy several years earlier. Liz tried to massage out the scar tissue (which happened frequently during my labor) & sent me home w/ some cottonroot bark. Cottonroot bark is an herb pregnant women will take to cause an abortion because it will induce labor. According to WebMD it is not safe for pregnant women. The drs at the hospital later said the scar tissue did not exist. I went back & forth between Two Leaves & home a few times until I was having excruciating pain, I was having convulsions between contractions, & contractions more in my back. They told me that was totally normal during labor. When my contractions would lighten up they would give me more cottonroot bark. I was given this 7+ times. I spent most of my time w/ students 1 of whom I had only met the day before. Liz really only came in to do my cervical checks. I asked about getting an epidural & told them that I was exhausted & ready to be done. This should have triggered them to ask me questions like "are you wanting to transfer?" but they didn't even bring it up. This conversation happened several times. I told them I felt the need to push & they told me to do it & maybe it would move the baby down. This happened several times. My husband told Liz (outside of the labor room) that he was seriously concerned & she told him it is not his place to change my birthing plan & he needed to drink tea to calm down. This happened more than once. At no point did Liz ask me what I wanted to do. Liz broke my water & told me to try pushing so she could feel what the baby did. At some point I went for a walk around the birthing suite & I saw papers COVERING the entire desk of printouts from WebMD of my symptoms & how to fix them. Some of the remedies included giving me 2oz of castor oil & 6 pellets of pulsatilla. Pulsatilla, according to WebMD, has been known to cause miscarriages & has also been known to cause birth defects in unborn children. It is not recommended to give to pregnant women. Finally they pulled out a janky ultrasound on a computer & it took 4 of them to figure out how to turn it on. Eventually they couldn’t tell how dilated I was because my cervix was very swollen. At this point Liz stopped documenting what they were doing to me for the next 3 hours. At some point I asked to transfer. We asked if Liz would drive us & were told we needed to drive ourselves. There was no ambulance on call like we were told there would be. When we got to the hospital the drs told us that I should have never been in active labor for longer than 18 hours because my & baby’s survival rate drastically decreased after that. I had been at Two Leaves for 27 hours with my water broken for 17 hours. The dr asked Liz how much water I had lost when they broke it & she said "barely any". This was a complete lie.
