Hi neighbors, we are considering having our home re-insulated (or better insulated). Has anyone done this? Recommendations for companies and the real scoop on improved comfort level in your home and energy cost savings would be appreciated!

The first thing that my wife and I did when we purchased our home was add 12 more inches of 'blown cellulose' insulation to the attic. It made a huge difference of heating/cooling bills from the previous mg&e bills. Many people can't believe how low our utility bills are, but we did other things to be energy contentious like replacing our furnace with a high efficiency, and some windows too. Re-insulating your attic will be your most cost effective option. I am a do-it-yourselfer and purchased the insulation at a home improvement store that also rented the blower to install. The store offered some guidance on install, but there are also many youtube tutorials to view that were helpful. It was not too difficult. For a $400-500 dollar investment and a weekend day it has made a significant lasting impact on our homes efficiency. If DIY is not in the cards I would recommend Duerst Insulation www.insulationtechnicians.com I have used them for several properties that I manage, and they have done a great job! Good luck, I think that it is a worthwhile endeavor that you will be pleased with for years to come.
