She's tried for days to find a vehicle big enough so she could evacuate. She had one reserved and the company gave it to someone else. With the storms predicted path, she really needs to leave.   ******USAA members****** If your zone is evacuated and you have homeowners or renters insurance through USAA, call them and let them know they will pay for your gas, food and hotel to evacuate. It's called prohibited usage for emergencies under renters/owners insurance. They will cover lodging for up to two weeks. 1-800-531-8722 Copy and paste if you know someone this would be helpful to them.

  Is your father or grandfather a VETERAN? USAA is the best, hands down! Used to be just for Officers but they opened it up a few years ago to include multi generations of VETERANS!   I was with usaa for over 12 years for home owners ins, i moved here and they wanted about 4 times what i was paying because it was florida. Carpenters ended up being way less.

  If your Mom or Dad were military (Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy or Coast Guard; or, any of the Reserve elements), you qualify for USAA. Best rates anywhere because they serve the military. 1-800-531-8722. This is for automobile or homeowners. I had State Farm for 30 years until I found out I qualified for USAA. I had just picked up a 5 th vehicle for my teen daughters. USAA rates were cheaper (and the coverage better) than I had with State Farm on the 4 vehicles. They also have some great banking products. Because of my military service, both of my daughters carried USAA insurance coverage into their marriages. You'll have to check; but, you may qualify because of your grandparent's military service as well.

  New Hampshire and North Carolina residents who are not eligible for membership may be able to obtain USAA Auto Insurance by calling 1-800-531-USAA (that's 1-800-531-8722) to determine eligibility as defined by these state's mandatory coverage laws. All other individuals not eligible for USAA Auto Insurance may be able to obtain an auto policy through Liberty Mutual Insurance by calling 1-855-349-2149.

  phone number 800-531-8722...that will get you to the main whatever....and you can select your department....another thing I really appreciate about them is that they don't make you jump through hoops with a claim....for instance, when we have had the rare auto claim, they just let us get the quote from Southern Michigan Auto Body in Climax, and we're good to go.....Southern Michigan is top notch, honest, and their service is prompt....USAA accepts that and we don't have to go running around to get 3 or more quotes....just get the work done and turn in the bill...period....

  Michigan is not a good state for auto insurance...when we were making a change, or looking to, I heard from one agent after another about the burden of our MCCA ...we are the only state in the country with such an oppressive catastrophic claims category....Triple A has some good rates, but we went back to USAA...that is for current or former military...when we first joined, it was only for officer grade, and has since changed to include non commissioned and non-officer grade...they have a Subscriber Savings Account and every year the board meets and declares a dividend.....a portion of which is deposited into that account....we're happy to be back with USAA

  Just got my renewal notice from GEICO. Went up almost $50/month for my 2014 Volt and wife's 2012 Routan. I called them to complain, and they attributed the increase to two factors. One was a "general increase" for all of Michigan (WTF is that supposed to mean anyway?) and the other was that their analysis of claims against a VW Routan indicates it's an expensive vehicle to repair. A year ago we bailed on Progressive thanks to a huge hike after 6 months. Who do you folks recommend?

  Matthew Sawyer......Is your father still living? Call USAA and talk to them. Their cust reps are very helpful and knowledgeable. If there is anyway to get you in they will try. We just signed up for USAA and moved all home, auto and some financials over to them. We are insuring our Volt and Tesla AND the house for only $200 more per year than Farmers Insurance wanted for JUST the Tesla. We have perfect driving and accident records, so obviously Farmers has brain damage. But, I highly encourage you to go further and give them a call.

  Matthew Sawyer, USAA is not a Govt company, but they bolster products for military, vets and fams. It was started in in the 20's by a group of returning soldiers. It is Fortune 500 company and they offer a whole bunch of products, not just insurance.

  The way USAA works now, to my belief, is that they have different "risk pools" and different insurance offerings. The risk pools are "Officers & Dependents", "Enlisted Military & Dependents", "General USAA Members" or something like that. It does mean that non-officers may pay higher rates.

  USAA is owned by it's members. I get a rebate check every year because they paid out less claims than they expected. It's a great insurance company. Everytime I'm approached by another company I just say I'm with USAA and the conversation stops there.

  After almost 30 years of membership in USAA, my 'dividend' and 'subscriber savings account' have become fairly substantial.

  When I was in my mid 20's, I had 2 'At Fault' mishaps in 1 year. USAA sent me a letter stating that the gentlemanly thing for me to do would be to stop doing that. As an Officer and a Gentleman, I conceded that they were correct and stopped causing collisions.

  Working personal injury litigation (both sides) for years...State Farm and Allstate are the most litigious. Terribly and rudely so. USAA claims are fantastic. Geico and progressive have not been bad to deal with. I have Travelers due to price, their claims have always seem 'quieter' and I've not had any noisy litigation files with them.

  Cost alone is not everything. After Geico or AAA drops you for BS and makes your life miserable, tell me it is worth it. USAA is not the cheapest, but usually cheaper. Their service though is superb.

USAA was right on it, and is crediting my account. Good job USAA! If you're looking for a new credit card company or need auto/home/health insurance, they beat the competition hands down. You don't have to have served in the armed forces to be eligible, you just have to had a relative who served. Check them out. And no, I don't get paid for a referral. They paid me $10,000.00 upfront for my endorsement.
