About us
My name is Brian Morgante. 5 years ago, I accidentally stumbled into graphic design, and haven't really looked back since. Here's a little information about me.
I was born and raised in a small town outside of Erie, PA - right on the shores of Lake Erie. I grew up in the country, surrounded by the beauty of the world, and more than enough time to dream about the future. Those dreams were full of music - traveling the world, sharing my creations with others, and creating an existence based on creativity. I fell in love with punk rock in that small town, and it changed me to my core. I also met the love of my life in that small town, and she has changed me to my core as well.
Life has always revolved around music. I toured the country and the world with my band Deadhorse for years, as well as touring with other bands starting long before that. I did everything I could to bring my visions to life, and I couldn't be happier with the things I have done with music in my life. Life has a way of changing though, and that is when design entered the picture.
Like everyone out there that grew up playing in bands with all of your friends that were just as poor as you - you quickly became a "jack-of-all-trades" to get the job done. I learned how to put together album artwork. I helped friends make posters for the shows happening in our town. I created logos for my friends' side-businesses to raise some cash before the next tour. I figured out how to piece together page layouts for zines, art books, and propaganda to spread visions and ideas I felt strongly about. I quickly learned about the printing process for merch, and how to get the job done quickly, efficiently, and most importantly - in a cost effective manner. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was building a whole new set of skills that would become all that represents Flesh & Bone today.
In the midst of touring with Deadhorse, I started to get a lot of questions from strangers saying "who... show more
designed your merch?!" When I would answer "I did!", I was surprised to hear people say "You should design for my band!" This would happen night after night, and before I knew it - I had my first workload. I started to piece together shirt ideas for these new friends, and get a little cash to help keep me fed while on the road. To my surprise, I really ended up enjoying what I was doing, and it felt like this could be where my life was headed.
The jobs didn't stop coming, as this band told that band, and this friend told that friend, and I knew I needed to focus on design even more. Now it was posters, album art, web graphics, any type of merchandise item you can imagine, and more. Bands grew into small businesses and venues. Promotion companies and record labels. Then churches, schools, and even corporations. I was accidentally walking into a career, and didn't even realize it.
For the most part, the focus of Flesh & Bone Design has always been tangible. My focus has always been on items that you'll be able to hold in your hands when it's all said and done. The silkscreened shirt. The vinyl record. The 11x17 poster advertising the show in the coffee shop window. The stickers and buttons you get for free from your favorite local business. I like to create tangible items, as it's this modern form of folk-art that is here for a reason, and fades away quickly. This is where the name Flesh & Bone comes from, and I stand behind these sentiments each and every day.
From the very first day I sat down to fudge my way through a shirt design for my very first client, I told myself "I'll do this until I go 2 weeks without a new job. THEN I'll get serious about my life." 5 years later, and over 2,000 unique clients from all over the globe - my nose is still to the grindstone, and I couldn't be more excited about the future of Flesh & Bone Design.
I'm excited to work with each and every client that contacts me, and if you're reading this - I'm excited to work with you! With a lot of designers, it's easy to develop an arrogance that strives to only work with "a certain level" of client. A lot of people I've talked to have expressed negative feelings toward a lot of designers that have "talked down" to them, as if they weren't worth their time. Here at Flesh & Bone - my promise is to NEVER be "THAT" designer. Keeping an open mind and an excitement to work with clients on all ends of the spectrum are what keeps this job exciting each and every day.
So if you're a local band looking to get your first designs made for your very first run of shirts - I've been there, and I know how exciting that moment is, and I want to help you. If you've been on the road for years, and need 10 designs in a rush for the holiday season, because the label is breathing down your throat and management has visions to "take you higher" - I'm here for you and I can't wait to bring your visions to life. Maybe you're in the process of starting your own business and you need the right logos to elevate your vision to get the funding you need - let's put our brains together and knock it out of the park! No matter who you are, what you do, where you live - Flesh & Bone is here to bring life to your ideas. I'll listen to your ideas, we'll solve problems together, and we'll create something together that we can all get excited about. Bands, businesses, events, schools, churches, sports teams, filmmakers, photographers, artists, industries, corporations and everyone in between - let's get to work! show more
