Visiting NOLA for a week. I've looked at a lot of the major activity recommendations - what are the more lesser-known places to visit (French Quarter, Garden District, etc)? Could be anything from a restaurant to just an interesting location.

Go to Freret Street. You can do it on the same trip when you're wandering around Magazine while taking the St. Charles ~~streetcar~~ bus uptown. Get off at Napoleon and walk a few blocks to get there. http://thenewfreret.com/ It's not large enough to occupy your entire day, but it'd be worth spending a few hours there to explore and have lunch. Sarita's Grill is an early stop and a good one, but any of the options listed are fine. My favorite restaurant is Jack Dempsey's on Poland. It's a seafood place in Bywater with generous portions. This description does not do it justice, but if you're exploring that area, it's the place to eat.
