  I am from Michigan and we have a son who has ADD, dysgraphia, and SPD. He needs assistive tech for school and we are trying to get our insurance to pay for some of it so he can have this tech at home. School only has so many devices and never seem to have enough to go around. Insurance says they need a diagnositc code for each device we were asking about but the Doctors say there is not one for the devices he needs. iPad with dragon dictation app for speech recognition or some sort of word processor. Where do we go to for help?

  Medical insurance will only pay for medical devices and tools- it sounds like you are looking for educational devices and tools- they would not have a diagnostic code for them. Does your son have an IEP or a 504 (disability-based) plan? If so, you can use those tools to get your son's assistive technology needs met, by writing them into the plans, so your son has access to the tools he needs to meet his goals. Has he had any sort of AT eval done? If not, check with http://mits.cenmi.org (Michigan Integrated Technology Supports) for assistance, lending library tools, etc. They can also provide more info on funding. Hope this was helpful!
