On the AACE site, be sure and select the specialty “thyroid dysfunction.” We have also just launched a physician registry of doctors who have told us they have particular expertise in Graves’. To access the registry, go to the home page at www.gdatf.org and click on “physician registry” in the box on the top right-hand side of the screen. (Registration is required, but it is free). We are just getting started, so there aren't a ton of listings yet, but hopefully, we will expand the registry as we get recommendations for great docs.

On the AACE site, click on “Find an Endocrinologist” link on the right-hand side of the screen. Be sure and select the specialty “thyroid dysfunction” when doing a search on this site. On the thyroid.org site, move your cursor over where it says “Public & Patients” (towards the top center of the screen) and then click on “Find a Specialist.” Hope this helps!

Of course, some of these docs will primarily see pediatric diabetes patients, but this would be a good place to start; you can call the ones that look promising to see if they have expertise in Graves'. Or, is a 15yr old ready for adult endocrinologist?Graves' F. replied:Hello – I have one resource that says that children who have not yet reached puberty are usually referred to a pediatric endocrinologist – so you might be OK with a regular endocrinologist. A good referral site for endocrinologists is http://www.aace.com/. From the home page, scroll down a bit to see the “Find an Endocrinologist” link on the left-hand side of the screen. For the specialty, you can either select “pediatric endocrinology” or “thyroid dysfunction”. The “pediatric” specialty covers all endocrine disorders, so you would definitely want to call the office to ask about their experience with Graves’. The Foundation has also worked with a very well-known pediatric endocrinologist who is based out of the Yale School of Medicine – although that would definitely be a long-distance haul for you.
