  Question from the Inbox ~ My husband and I will be moving to Holloman AFB in New Mexico in March. Does anybody know how long the wait for housing is? This will be my first PCS and it is such a different environment than I'm in now. Does anybody have any suggestions or has anybody been stationed there?

  Keep an open mind like everyone has previously said :) We're at Holloman now (as our first base/almost 4 years), and there's not much to do in town but you can always find something. The town has a small/decent Zoo called Alameda Zoo, there's sand sledding at White Sands Monument, and the base always tries to do activities for families/Single Airmen. We lived on base for a year, loved our house, but we wanted to save money and so we moved off base and pocket a good amount of BAH. It all depends on what works for your family. Also, you might want to call the Finance Office here on base (575-572-1110 Base Operator, ask for Finance) to verify the Lodging payment information. As far as I know you get only 10 days reimbursable after 10 days you pay out of pocket but you're allowed to stay at Lodging for 30 days (if they have it available) but if you need more than 30 days you can fill out a "Hardship Letter" and they will try to extend you for as long as possible. Oh and of course, call Lodging (575-572-3311 Press 0 for Front Desk) right away so you have a place to stay when you get here. They also accept pets (for an extra fee) as long as it's not on the restricted breeds listing and if you have all vaccination info. Good luck!
