Tips for finding a gardener? Struggling to find anyone who knows what a weed looks like or doesn't mind mowing a lawn. Tried local papers, online searches and word of mouth. I'm struggling to find someone to help out with a large garden for an elderly relative. There are local adverts but they only seem keen on designing and planting not weeding and maintaining. No-one seems to want to mow a lawn, the one guy I did manage to find doesn't know the difference between a weed and a plant and pulls up bulbs and all sorts and only seems to want to prune things, only turns up half the time and make excuses about mowing the lawn too.
Is this typical? Is a half decent gardener harder to find than a half decent electrician?

Try [The Gardener’s Guild.](https://www.thegardenersguild.co.uk) “The Gardeners Guild is a national trade network for professionally qualified gardeners. Our members are self-employed gardeners who offer garden and grounds maintenance as part of their services.” They should know their plants from their weeds!

Have you tried looking at your local area in the [gardeners guild](https://www.thegardenersguild.co.uk/)? I think it’s a mixed bunch in terms of what the gardeners want to do (design vs maintenance) but there might be someone suitable on there. I know a few gardeners listed on it and they are happy to mow and prune!
