  First time home buyer: new condo purchase and need legal services (Real estate lawyer) - Advice please! Hey /r/ottawa, I am purchasing a new build condo and I need legal services (a lawyer) to review my agreement. That said, I am not too sure what to expect, and how much to budget for this process. After calling some lawyer services, they are giving me various rates and throwing a lot of information at me that has me quite confused. For example: the land transfer tax is INCLUDED in the final cost, as it is to be paid to the lawyer who will deal with the settlement? What about the fee for reviewing the initial agreement, and will work to put the property in my name. Do they all do this service? Lastly, if anyone has any recommendation on a lawyer/legal service in Ottawa that ran everything smoothly, please feel free to leave me some names! Thanks in advance.

  Hi - I've used Liz Ham for my three purchases/sales, including a pre-construction condo in Centertown. She cost around $1500 for the purchase. Land transfer fees do apply, but there is a rebate if you're a first time home buyer, as someone else in the thread mentioned. She's at Hampton Park at Carling and Kirkwood, just off the Queensway. 613-722-9300
