I'm looking for a good vet who is in it for the animals not to make as much as possible. I took our golden to vet around her for a cough. To do the check up and put her on antibiotics was almost 400$. When I told them that I could write a check or cash pay 300$ the price magically fell to 298. I felt scammed. We have two dogs - who are service dogs so they come across stuff you typical house dog wouldn't. And the rescue cat we just acquired. Back home we had a vet who came to us and would check on the whole fur family for the cost of what the one visit to the vet we just went to cost.
We love our pets but I can't do 1,000$ for the whole family to be cared for. Anyone have anyone they'd recommend?
The long story is:
I'm a little burned on the veterinary industry as whole. Last year our cat got cancer we went to a vet that we found good reviews on yelp for. 14,000 dollars later (essentially our whole saving) we had to put our sweet girl down. When we found the vet who came to our house she reviewed the receipts and file of our cat and we found out that they had charged us almost 9,000$ over what is considered "primary standard of care" for what they did. They basically took advantage of a family trying to save their beloved pet by charging for every little thing they could. We ended up reporting them and are now part of a small class action suit of over 30families with pets with cancer that they did this to. Through this suit we have found out some disgusting practices of vet care like some will run your credit to see how much they can charge, when you put "do anything for the animal" they charged for procedures they either didn't do or were completely unnecessary. and charge some people more for the same service. There is no regulation on this. Needless to say we don't want to find ourselves in this situation again.
