Steve L. asked:To Jerry Malcolm, Stan Kelley and/or anyone else who has experience with hiring a professional event photographer and videographer, can you give me any kind of "guesstimate" as to how much such might cost for an outdoor dedication type event where they would need to be working on-site for 3 to 4 hours? As you may have read already, my non-profit organization is having a big event on Saturday, May 10th. Look at my FB page for more details. Thanks for any cost "guesstimate." :-)
Stan K. replied:FYI in round numbers, for photography of an event like yours my rack rate would be $500 for the first hour plus $200/hr after that ($60/hr for "non photo waiting time"). For that price client would get 50-100 polished (digitally edited) photos per hr on a CD with copyright release to use however they want. Repeat customers, or those inclined to haggle, can generally get 10-30% off in exchange for assurances that the photography will be low hassle. (For example, you're presenting an award? Don't stand in dappled sunlight, move over to the shade, LOL.) Some prospects act like I'm way overpriced, others don't bat an eyelash, so I honestly don't know where I am vs competitors.
