About Us
With passion and dedication for African culture, especially dance, Rowè Niodior (ROW-WAY NO-JOUR) was founded by Crettia Hunter and Fatou-Seydi Sarr in 2007 to share this culture through dance. As an Ode for the diligent grace of the Women of Niodior, a Senegalese village in West Africa where Seydi comes and Crettia adopted as her second home, this dance company was name "Rowè Niodior" meaning Women of Niodior in Sereer.
We take our participants thru a transformation with our performance educating you on the way of life of parts of Africa. This transformation becomes a catalyst for dialogue of people with different perspectives and backgrounds.
Our Mission
Rowè Niodior is an African Dance Company dedicated to African Culture.
Our goal is to become a catalyst where people with different perspectives and backgrounds find common grounds through performances, movement, cultural exchange and education, opening a dialogue between diverse cultures illuminating the similarities while preserving African culture for future generations; forging ties between the African continent and the Diaspora; and reinvigorating the Detroit community.
"In Africa dance is the traditional expression of individual and collective emotions."
