I paid $145 for alterations from “Alterations by Michelle” on my wedding dress which was to include a hem, bustle, replace a zipper, repairing the loose beading and steam the whole dress, though she didn’t give me an itemized receipt so not sure what exactly was charged for each thing.
The condition of the dress after Michelle’s alterations was:
• A lot of the beads were visually very loose.
• There were 3 little holes on the bride’s right shoulder that needed repaired.
• The bustle was put in with a bead holding the layers together with a ribbon under the dress to tie it together. With each bead, there was a buckle of sheer material above it…it didn’t lay flat. There were 10 beads (5 points for the bustle) all were the same way.
• The hems were ¼” hems in front only to the sides and were rippled. Was not hemmed all the way around the dress. 2 sheer layers in front were 3” longer than the underlayers. Not a good transition from front to train.
• The zipper that was replaced fell short the right length by about 1.5”. The bottom of the zipper finished before the last 2 buttons and was put in poorly.
• Under the dress was not steamed as the netting was all crinkled every which way. And the slips were wrinkled too.
• The built in bra was tacked in place only in 2 places
I had to go to another seamstress to get it fixed again because Michelle did not fix it right
What was done to correct some of the issues:
• Repaired the beading that was loose, which was at least 5 parts.
• Repaired the 3 little holes and put more beads to cover the repair.
• Had to take out the whole bustle and start from scratch. To make sure the dress laid flat from the start.
• Put in 3 points for a bustle(6 ties) attaching them thru a lace mofit and close or on top of seam allowance for support.
• Bra was removed and had to purchase a stick on bra
Did not realize about the zipper until the steaming started. Did not replace or repair. Did not affect wearing the dress, just didn’t like that it finished above the buttons. Not professional.
Did not realize about the poor hem job until the steaming. Did not repair. Again, did not affect wearing the dress, didn’t like the way it was finished. Not professional.
• Finished steaming each layer starting with the slip and worked my way out from the underside to make each layer lay correctly. The netting was properly steamed so it laid smoothly under the dress.
Dress was tried on and fit properly, after the second seamstress fixed it.
Partial or complete refund should be made back to me from “Alterations by Michelle” since she breached the verbal contract by not completing the dress properly and correctly.
ISO of seamstress. Any recommendations? Just need to get a dress hemmed.
