110 Wine Tour Join us on a fun, small-group wine tour of the Spectacular Wine Country!
You’ll visit four charming, backroads wineries and be served a picnic lunch in an idyllic winery setting. Your tour guide will tell fascinating stories and share many interesting tidbits about local history, culture and wine making.
This is not a smarmy or touristy activity. Our specialty is intimate, light-hearted and truly memorable. This tour is sure to entertain with a very approachable and easy-going style. Discover and savor new experiences tasting some of the world’s most celebrated wines. Our typical guest is not necessarily a wine expert but keen to learn a bit about wine and wine-making, and is open to sharing the experience with a few other like-minded wine adventurers.
Here are the features:
• Your tour of intimate wineries is crafted for you by your Platypus tour guide
• Our long-standing relationships with many wineries result in enhanced tasting experiences for our guest
• It’s a small group tour on a shuttle bus with limo-style seating (10-12 guests, usually)
• We actively negotiate with wineries on behalf of our guests to keep tasting fees reasonable
• Your guide will set up a tasty picnic lunch for you at a picturesque winery
• Pick-up and drop-off from local area hotels is included.
• We serve a shared cheese & cracker platter and plenty of water on board
• We can accommodate vegetarian, gluten-free and most other diet restrictions
We also offer private tours for social, corporate, team-building and incentive groups.

My Brother and I are traveling to California next week, we'll be in the San Francisco area (and driving by Napa Valley on the way) and are looking for a few recommendations for wineries to visit. We don't have a ton of cash to blow on wine, and while we certainly love the stuff, aren't snobs about it. I tend to prefer Red wines but honestly, if it tastes good and has alcohol in it, we're pretty happy. Aside from good wine, if the winery has something special about it, or the tasting room is really cool, or the owners/workers are cool to drink with, or if they make really unique wine that you generally can't find anywhere else, that would make for a good recommendation for us. *Edit: Thanks for all the advice people, and please don't stop if you have more. I wish I had more time in CA devoted to wine drinking, but will fit in as much as I can. I'll let you all know what we eventually end up doing!
zulhadm replied:I would recommend using a tour company. Going with one will waive the fee for most wineries and you can meet some pretty cool (non-snobby) people as well. And if you drink a lot you don't need to worry about driving buzzed/drunk. I went last year with this one: www.platypustours.com They were great. Everyone was chill, and they only took us to family-owned, friendly wineries. Most of them let you have as many repours as you want too.
