Where is a good place to buy better quality telescopes? Someone told me sports stores but they told me they have 29.99 ones. Are there any stores for the 500ish dollar ones or is it an online only thing? Thanks for any info!

For 500 ish dollar range scopes worth buying, online is the best bet. telescope.com is the Orion store and I use https://www.optcorp.com/ for just about everything else. If you post what you want to look at, etc we can help you narrow down what to get. Also, before you buy something, check out what the LAS has available for sale.
Where is a good place to purchase telescope lenses?

My usual online sources for eyepieces are Oceanside (optcorp.com), Orion (telescope.com, but stay away from their cheapest ones), and University Optics (universityoptics.com). Keep in mind that you really only need two plus a barlow (or better, Powermate). There are sources online to help you pick an eyepiece set.
I'm a long time photographer but a novice at astrophotogaphy. Can anyone suggest a quality (not a toy) telescope that I might look for on ebay or another site. Been spending so much on camera...
Rod, Unless your lucky, it may be hard to find a decent telescope and stable, motorized mount in the $300 to $500 range. Check out the Meade 8 inch LX200GPS ($2300) or LX90LNT ($1800) Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT). A new LXD75 6", F/5, Newtonian costs $599. The ideal would be a LX200R Ritchey Chretien (RC) ($2500). "LX" indicates "long exposure". The RC has a well corrected field of view which is useful for the larger CCDs used in DSLRs. Check OPT for new telescope prices and then try E-Bay as well as Astromart. Astromart is at: http://www.astromart.com/ OPT is at: http://www.optcorp.com/ Clear skies! Bill Keicher
Hi - I'm new to this great hobby and recently purchased a new 12" LX200 GPS. I would like to purchase an illuminated eyepiece w/crosshairs but don't know which one. Can anyone recommend one and why...
Opt is a good site to order from: http://www.optcorp.com/ Also, one consideration - if you are going to setup in polar mode, I think a 9 mm is better. Because it's that much more powerful it will result in better alignment/tracking, more accurate drift alignment - that's my opinion anyway. - Mike
Hi All, Any recommendations on a suitable Guide Scope for use with a DSI Pro, and which can be attached to a Celestron NexStar 11 GPS (and how ?). I will be using an SAC 10 CCD as main camera (when...
Stefan, I do all my business through OPT Corp in California. Toll free number: 1-800-483-6287 and ask for Mike Fowler ... he is the "Scope Guru" and will be able to answere any questions you might have. OPT sells the Orion ED80, as well as the Losmandy mounts - Mike should be able to find the right set up for you. I bought the "3D" counter weight system. you'll need about 10 pound of counterweights to balance the scope. Mikes email addres is below mike@... cheers,
