About us

Osteopathy defines itself as the art to diagnose and to treat the imbalance of articular and tissular mobility (tendon, muscles, organs) disrupting the health.

Osteopathy is a manual therapeutic science based on the deep knowledge of anatomy and physiology (functioning) of human body. It seeks the autoregulation systems of the body to restore its harmonious functioning.

Osteopathy suggests rebalancing the tensions of the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and organs. This will allow the structures to find their physiologies and the body to work harmoniously.

THREE PRINCIPLES

Osteopathy is based on the three principles of it’s founder Andrew Taylor Still ( 1821-1917 ) :

The body is a whole, a unity in which all the regions and the systems of the body are connected and interdependent. Any disturbance or dysfunction of a region, will have repercussions on the functioning of the set (locally and remotely).

“The role of the artery is supreme “. The body has its own systems of autoregulation and automobile cure. It possesses all which is necessary for it to assure and maintain health. The fluctuation in organic liquids, in particular in blood in the artery, is fundamental to establish a homeostasis in the whole body thanks to a system of complex balance between absorption and elimination.

“The structure governs the function “. The osteopathic concept brings to light the unity of the body in which the structure and the function are mutually interdependent. The disease is the result of anatomical abnormalities which succeeds the physiological disorder. The disorder of the structure modifies directly the function.

Osteopathy consists in understanding the narrow connections existing between the notion of health and the functional balance of all the body’s structures. For that purpose, the osteopathic art aims, via a precise diagnosis and adapted manual techniques which are appropriate for it, to treat the functional imbalance. It restores and protects the health, and... show more
then, prevents the appearance of disease.

The osteopathy does not suggest curing the degenerative, genetic, infectious pathologies, or neoplasic. On the other hand, it can have an action on the consequences of these pathologies (in particular pain, improve the everyday life). From then on, osteopathy will be a complementary palliative therapy which you should not neglect.

In summary, the osteopathy is at once an art, a philosophy and a science:

* An Art, because it is the manual therapeutic which is based on detailed specific skills of the human body, and requires a precise, meticulous, exact touch, and always measured according to the patients and the pathology to be treated.

* A Philosophy, because it is interested in the man in its entirety. It is not so much the symptom which interests the osteopath that causes it which provokes it.

* A Science which contains the anatomical, physiological, biomechanical knowledge, and biological relative to restore and to preserve health.

Osteopathy is exclusively a manual therapy. Its objective is to determine and to treat any limitation of mobility of the various structures composing the human body (bones, muscles, organs etc.) These losses of mobility (joints, muscles, ligaments or internal organs) can be at the origin of a health imbalance.

Osteopath aims at treating the cause (s) to remove the symptoms. His objective is to restore the mechanical harmony of the body, in a vision of global nature. He leans on these knowledge in anatomy, physiology and human biomechanics.

Osteopath adapts his techniques according to the patient, to his age, and in the respect for possible medical contrindication.

The articular biomechanic is based on the knowledge of the geometry of joints, its mechanical behavior (physiology), some influence of its environment, and the ageing of tissues. The recovery of mobility by a manipulation allows a better stabilization of the joint by an improvement of the locomotion and the vascularization, and also to facilitate the possible healing of tissues.

Recovery will be optimized by the joint work of the osteopath and the physiotherapist.

Consultations are often made in emergency treatment, it would be desirable to consult the osteopath to treat the pain’s chronicity, that is in thorough treatment.

Osteopathy has its limits. The osteopath will know how to direct you to other therapists in case of pathology asking for a medical intervention. Manipulations do not replace medication when it is necessary and nor surgery when it is indispensable.
