About us
ChimChiminy Sweep is based in the village of Kempsford in the heart of the Cotswold Water Park. Set up as a business in 2011 it is it is run and owned by Mark Shipway, who has many years experience in building construction and fire service industry.
ChimChiminy Sweep carries out cleaning of lined and unlined chimneys and flues, both residential and commercial, from open fires, wood and multi-fuel burners and stoves.
Sweeps are carried out in an area approximately 15mile radius from kempsford, covering the border area of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire including the towns and villages of Cricklade, Cirencester, Fairford, Lechlade, Highworth, Faringdon, Swindon, and Purton.
The whole process of chimney sweeping is 99% clean for the customer.
All I ask prior to our appointment is that you dont have a fire on the day of the sweep and that you have a standard electrical plug socket available.
Typically a sweep will take approximately 45 - 60 minutes to complete. Before coming into your property I will have already carried out an assessment as to the height of the chimney and the general condition of the stack from the ground. I will then assemble my equipment and don shoe covers before coming inside.
Firstly i will make a space in front of the hearth if nessessary, lay down a plastic sheet on the floor followed by a cotton soot sheet. On this I will place my tools and any parts of the hearth or stove which I may have to dissassemble.
I will then select the correct size and stiffness of brush and correct rods for the sweep. with the brush attached to the first rod inside the hearth I will then tape a hearth sheet over the opening of the fire, this will stop the majority of the soot entering the room
With the hazardous material vacuum switched on to extract any of the dust which escapes the soot sheet, I will then connect the rods one by one, pushing and rotating them up the chimney. When the brush pops out the top or comes in contact with the cowl, I will... show more
reverse the process.
The soot collected in the hearth will be vacuumed up, surrounds wire brushed, and any metal or glass cleaned,- prior to reassembly - JOB DONE! show more
