  My recommendations: Entry-level brush: Harder & Steenbeck Ultra. Fancy brush: Harder & Steenbeck Evolution or Infinity. Entry-level compressor: Any Chinese one off ebay will do at first, but they're not quiet. Make sure it has a tank. Good compressor: Sparmax or Iwata. Fancy compressor: A silent one from Sil-Air or Jun-Air. Personally, I have a H&S Infinity CRPlus with a Sparmax tank fed by a reclaimed refrigeration compressor. The 'silent' compressors out there use refrigeration compressors. Low CFM, but high pressure and very quiet.   Nothing from the car side of things. I'm sure there maybe boat/plane shops that have local stocks if you can find them. My normal supplier for LM is MB models, the rcs stuff is very good. They stock Faskolor & rcs air brush paint to. www.air-craft.net is good for all things airbrush also.
