  +1 to maintaining/repairing your older windows. I'd also add Daniel Heller at Wood Windows Restoration and Repair (206-799-8744) to the list for someone who can repair old wood windows--from taking sashes and frames apart to getting new slab glass to restringing. Not all new double panes are as efficient as a well-maintained wood window, and often certainly are not as aesthetic. His window replacement for our limited job was very well done and reasonable in price. Jamie
