There's a lot of stuff to see down there. Not sure about your interests. I liked http://www.petersen.org/. There's Disneyland and Universal Studios, of course. Universal is very touristy though. Haven't been there in ages. I have done http://www.paramountstudiotour.com/, http://www.sonypicturesstudiostours.com/ and http://vipstudiotour.warnerbros.com/category/about-the-tours/ but these are not as well known and what you see totally varies depending on what's in production or what sets are up. If there are multiple choices, I'd gone on the equivalent of the cheaper ones. Haven't been to http://www.citywalkhollywood.com/ in ages. In college, sometimes on weekends, we'd take the bus to 3 rd Street Promenade: http://www.downtownsm.com/. I enjoyed driving up the PCH from say Santa Monica. I dropped by http://www.pepperdine.edu/ before. It's up on a hill w/a good view of the ocean. Monterey Park is known for its Chinese community. If you like roller coasters, there's http://www.sixflags.com/magicMountain/index.aspx, but it's NW of LA.
