You may have some questions and we’ve got the answers!
*How can I schedule an appointment?
Appointments can easily be scheduled by calling or texting (903)352-8944. Please be sure and include your first and last name and phone number in your message. I’m not always able to answer the phone right away, but will try to return your call at the end of the day or following morning. At this time, I can usually get your appointment scheduled within the same week but very rarely within the same day. To insure that you're able to get the preferred date and time for the next appointment, its best to pre-book at checkout. Nail trims can always be done while you wait, but please call ahead to check for our availability for the day (nail trim and grinding $10)
Need to reschedule? Please call ahead and give as much notice as possible if you’re going to be late or need to reschedule your appointment. If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late, we may need to reschedule for another time. Emergencies do happen, but please let us know so we can try to accommodate you. No shows really put a damper on our day!
*What are your hours?
We groom by appointment, generally Tuesday thru Friday. Mondays and Saturdays are occasionally added around holidays and busy seasons. Our first appointment is at 9:00. We will phone you as soon as your dog is completed. If early drop off or late pickup is needed, please mention when scheduling so arrangements can be made. Otherwise, please make plans for your dog to be picked up upon completion.
What does my dog need to be groomed?
As the owner, vaccinations are at your discretion. Rabies is a state law, and as it is most definitely fatal, it is required. Other vaccinations should be given annually to insure your dogs protection. It is preferred that puppies be given at least 2 shots before they are groomed,... show more
for their own safety. We disinfect daily. If your dog is showing any signs of illness, please call to reschedule his appointment for a later date. Also, if he has any allergies or health concerns, please remind us at check in.
We also ask that your dog be walked and allowed to relieve himself before your appointment. We have a potty patch located in front of the building. Doing so will make him more comfortable and save us time cleaning up accidents.
How long will my appointment take?
Well, that depends greatly. It is best to allow 2-4 hours for completion. If a dog is misbehaving or is more work than anticipated, it delays us. Answering phones, checking customers in, and cleaning unexpected messes can really throw a kink in our day as well. Sometimes on a particularly well caffeinated day, I can complete cooperative dogs in an hour! For the fastest groom, schedule early morning, arrive on time with a dry and well combed dog. Remember, we WILL call you as soon as your dog is completed.
What will my groom include? What’s that? Why do you do that?
All full service grooms include
Sanitary trims – This is trimming of the hair around any orfices for hygiene purposes, to help these areas dry and healthy we shave the fanny, corners of the eye, opening of the ears, tummy, and armpits as needed.
Trimming the pad hair – The areas between the pawpads on the bottom of your dogs foot can be a trap for mats and stickers. We help combat this by trimming it closely.
Removing the ear canal hair – A medicinal powder is applied to the hair growing from the ear canal and it is then extracted. Doing so allows us to further inspect the ears for mites or infection, properly clean them, and keep an eye out for problems. A hair free ear is essential to keeping the ears dry and healthy! Some dogs do find this process uncomfortable but many don’t mind at all, and we try to keep it quick as possible.
Cleaning the ears -
We apply a cleaning solution to cotton balls and gently clean any wax, dirt, and debris from your dogs ears. We do not pour anything into their ears or apply any medication. The cleaning solution can help ward off yeast, bacteria, and fungus. If we notice any discomfort, redness, itching, or discharge we will alert you immediately. Ear problems rarely remedy themselves and can be painful and/or contagious, so we usually recommend a vet visit.
Checking the anal glands-
Full anal glands left untreated can result in impaction or rupture. We check every dog and empty them using external expression as needed. Some dogs have persistent gland problems and may need veterinary attention, if this is the case, please let us know.
Trimming the nails-
All nails and dewclaws are trimmed as short as possible without causing the dog discomfort. Just like human nails, some grow faster than others. As a good rule, most dogs could use a nail trim monthly. Overgrown nails can be painful, so many people come for a nail trim between grooming visits.
Grinding the nails –
Yes! Using a tiny grinder, I round each nail (provided the dog is amiable to it). This helps get the nails a tiny bit shorter and encourages the quick to recede. Over time, regular grinding can shorten the nail. It also is extremely handy for those with wood floors, leather furniture and car interiors, small children or sensitive skinned owners.
Bath-
Each dog is shampooed, hand scrubbed, and rinsed a minimum of 2 times using a high quality dog shampoo. In addition to our basic shampoo, we also carry medicated shampoo, whitening shampoo, hypoallergenic shampoo, aloe, and oatmeal shampoos. We will find the right shampoo for your pet. If you have veterinary prescribed shampoo, feel free to bring it. Cream rinse is used if needed.
Blow drying-
We have a variety of dryer types for different dog coats. Not all dog take to high velocity drying well. For those, we have now have a cage dryer that gently blows warm (not hot) air. It is quieter and some pets prefer it. We also offer “happy hoodies” that help muffle the dryer sound and comfort nervous dogs.
Brushing and Styling –
Your pet will be brushed, combed, and styled into his breed standard style or the style of your choice, provided he has the hair type and condition to allow for this. We then trim around the feet, face, ears, and tail.
Perfume, Bows, Bandanas-
Your pet is spritzed with a special doggie fragrance, which I change seasonally. We finish them off with bows and/or bandana (seasonal, holiday, or just for fun). Don’t care for the services? Please be sure and remind us.
What about a hair cut?
If your dogs breed standard calls for a clip (ie, poodle, schnauzer, cocker spaniel) it is included in the basic groom price. If your breed doesn’t typically call for a clip (ie, maltese, shih tzu, yorkie, etc) we can discuss what kind of clip is best suited for your dogs coat type and your lifestyle. Remember, terms like puppy cut, summer cut, and teddy bear trim can vary greatly in different regions. We will try our best to match the length that you request. Remember, it is hair and just like your own, we may try several different styles until we find the best match. Then again, like your own hair, you might like trying new things all the time! We don’t encourage shaving of double coated breeds. We understand its hot, but ideally the most healthy and comfortable thing for your dog is to be well brushed and clean. If he is matted or shedding excessively, we may have a few options which we can discuss further upon seeing the dog.
Extras? What kind of add ons can I get?
Flea treatment – any dogs showing signs of live fleas, ticks, mites, or lice will be bathed using chemical shampoo. This is for the health of your dog and the shop. The shampoo only kills the live fleas. Any further treatment will be at the owners discretion. We do not offer dipping because of the dangers associated with pouring and leaving chemicals on a pets skin. Charges depend on size of dog and severity of the problem. Avoid this fee by treating your dog with monthly flea preventative
Dematting- should your pet have excessive matting, we can discuss a few options. This first, a short cut, will be most comfortable for him and most economical for you. The second is for us to comb out the mats, should the dog be amiable to it. If the dog shows any signs of aggression or distress, we will not be able to proceed and a shave down is inevitable. Humanity before vanity! Dematting fees will be $1 per minute. In severe cases, an additional pelting fee may be assessed to help cover costs associated with wear on equipment. How can you avoid this? Regular brushing AND combing your pet at home will help keep matting under control. Even short hair can mat. As hair sheds, it can twist around healthy hair, starting a mat. Swimming, playing, scratching etc cause the mat to grow. Bathing can lock the matts in tighter. Remember to brush and comb before the bath, using dog shampoo and cream rinse to help keep the hair matt free. Matts are uncomfortable to the dog and can leads to other health problems, so if you can’t brush regularly, choose a lower maintenance style or schedule bath and brush appointments with us between grooms.
Deshedding treatment- Using a special solution, your dog is conditioned and massaged to help release and removed loose hair. A combination of high velocity drying and specials brushes make the fur fly. While some breeds shed year round, this will help keep the hair to a minimum. $10
Nail painting – Nail painting is available of on smooth coats, cooperative dogs for $5. For dogs with longer hair, we offer “clean feet” where the toes are shaved in conjunction with nail painting for $5 more.
Facial cleanser – a foaming tear free facial can help gently remove debris and odor from your dog’s eyes, nose, and mouth $2
Teeth brushing – a special doggie tooth brush and toothpaste help to scrub away the dogs teeth. A quick inspection allows us to see if anything inside the mouth needs veterinary attention (ie loose teeth, signs of infection) a spritz of enzymatic breath spray helps control odor and breakdown plaque. If the dogs are particularly cooperative, we may be able to do a quick scraping to remove buildup from the teeth. $3
How much will my total be?
Basic grooms start as low as $22. Provided with your dogs breed, I can give you a price range. Mix breeds are harder to create a price for until I can actually see the dog, its size, and coat type. Prices can vary based on size, condition of coat, and disposition of the dog. Dog that are outside of the normal size range of their breed or differ in coat type of condition may fall into a different category. Difficult to handle dogs may incur a small fee. Dogs with history of aggression may be muzzled or refused for everyone’s safety.
• A small fee will be assessed if your dog trys to bite me. A large fee will be assessed if he succeeds.
• All that being said, I can not always specifically nail down a price until the dog is completed but I can give you a range within few dollars.
How can I pay?
Cash, check, or credit card are all accepted. Cash or check are usually a little faster. As always, tips are accepted in the form coffee and chocolate.
When should I comeback?
That depends on your dogs coat type and how much maintenance you’re able to do at home. 4, 6, and 8 week schedules are common. Any longer and health portions of the groom go neglected. Even if your pet doesn’t need a haircut, a bath, brush, and nail trim may be in order between full groomings. These are offered at a discounted rate. We would be glad to help council you on home maintenance as well!
