Who remembers Naugles before it was changed to Del Taco? Mmmmmm yummy! The Del Taco in Barstow is about as close as it gets around here unless you make the drive to Visalia where there is still a restaurant that uses the Naugles Recipe.

1960 s The first Del Taco restaurant opened in Yermo, California in 1964 by Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson.[1] On the first official day of business, Del Taco made $169.[5] Success of the first restaurant led to two in Barstow, one in Needles, and a fifth restaurant in Corona (the first Del Taco with a drive-thru window). Dick Naugle, who installed the kitchen equipment in the Corona store, was impressed by the design and joined Hackbarth and Jameson in the fledgling business. In 1966, the trio founded Red-E-Food Systems, Inc. with the idea of franchising the Del Taco brand.[6] That same year, the original Del Taco sun logo was created and in 1967, Del Taco introduced their famous bean and cheese burrito with green or red sauce to their menu.[5] Before long, the restaurants were being founded throughout Southern California.

The Del Taco in Barstow is really just old school Del Taco. Not as good though but closer than anywhere else. It doesnt really taste like Naugles did IMO.

Naugles and Del Taco were a bit different.

Yes - when I was at UCR we use to decide where to go based on 2 factors - hunger and money!!! very little money it was Taco Bell. More than 2:00 - 6:00 Del Taco, Naugles, or lunch buffet at Shakeys. Chicken burrito then it was Del Taco for sure, Naugles didn't have one, when they did it wasn't great. When they merged they got rid of the chicken burrito at Del Taco

I worked at two Naugles and six different Del Tacos in the 80's. At one time I worked at the Naugles on Banbury and Magnolia and at the same time I worked at the Del Taco on Hole Ave. This was right before they merged or whatever. The menus were similar but the whole taste was different. Even the recipies were different. I enjoy the Barstow Del Taco often when going to and from vegas. It is great but the thing I really miss the the beans used to be refried with lard, and the ground beef is made differently if Im not mistaken. I used to cook, prep, and everything else at Del Taco. I was certified to work I think 6 different stations there. I knew the recipies and the order in which to prepare the food inside and out.
