Riverside County Animal Services serves a massive area, stretching from the Orange County line in the western portion of the county, all the way to the Arizona border in the eastern pockets. The city of Riverside is the largest city that contracts with the county for animal control and shelter services.

All the cities in the Coachella Valley -- except Indio and Palm Springs-- contract with the county for services out of Thousand Palms-based Coachella Valley Animal Campus. The county closed its aging Blythe facility in early 2011 and opened a new shelter closer to the heart of the city.

The construction of a new shelter in San Jacinto completed in late 2010 and the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus clinic is up and running, assisting the public with spay & neuter surgeries.

The Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley serves the public in the county's western region and the cities that contract with the county for animal control; Those cities are Eastvale, Jurupa Valley and Riverside; The Coachella Valley Animal Campus is based in Thousand Palms and serves the desert cities that include Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage (the city of Palm Springs has its own animal control department and shelter and is not associated with Riverside County Animal Services); The new Blythe Animal Shelter serves residents in the eastern portion of the county. The new San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus features a low-cost spay & neuter clinic that also provides low-cost vaccinations. Walk-in appointments are welcomed. The clinic is open for walk-in vaccinations (and microchips) Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The shelter at the San Jacinto facility is open for adoptions Tuesday... show more
through Saturday.

The cities of Hemet and San Jacinto are served by the Ramona Humane Society for animal control and sheltering.

Animal Friends of the Valleys, based at a new shelter in Wildomar, handles most of the animal control and sheltering needs for cities in the southwest portion of Riverside County (Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Temecula). Riverside County officers handle the pockets of unincorporated areas surrounding those cities.

Important note: Animal Friends of the Valley's officers also handle picking up stray pets in the city of Menifee; however, those animals do come to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus. show more
