  Anyone knows where I could buy door knob "rosettes"? I.e. the round metal plates that fit between door knob and door. I bought some lovely old, glass door knobs but need the plates... Tried new ones at Homebase or B&Q with no luck and even ebay has been difficult. Any iron monger like shop around here that would that sort of stuff? Gave up aiming for pretty old ones and would be happy with ANY at this point... Ta.

  Try http://www.screwfix.com/p/brk-670 mbx-679-dicon-ionisation-alarm-with-9 v-battery-backup/81969 for Smoke Alarms to HMO Standard and I have heard Selco is good for Fire Doors, you may even want to consider putting them in with new Frames as often the older door frames struggle to support the heavy door. If you do not want to see the physical closer I suggest you use self-closing hinges for a really neat job; http://www.sdslondon.co.uk/spring-hinges.html Don't forget the intumescent strip for fire doors
