  I was just curious, because spray foam is used in two different ways in attics. The more common is when it's used to cover the joists and cavities. Like Randa said it's expensive but does a good job when closed cell foam is used. Sometimes the ceiling of an attic is sprayed (the bottom of the roof sheathing). Of course you would not ever want to do this unless the attic is going to be finished. Blown cellulose or fiberglass do a good job.
