  We're biased but on this board and others we would recomend that you get quotes from several companies for what you need, keeping in mind that with Mexican insurance it is not so much as who you buy from as who is covering you and what the adjusters reputation are when you get into an accident. the company we use and recommend has underwriters that we have only heard good things about from people who have been an accident. I am first looking at technicalities before we get to details of route. Information on paperwork required for the car. I know about insurance (any recommendations on company would be most helpful). Did a similar trip 20 years ago from Indiana to Guatemala and am sure some of the details have changed. At the time I purchased an in-transit permit for a few hundred dollars a few hundred km south of the border with part of the money returned as we excited at the southern border. Any information on current policies as well as what we are allowed to travel with. Looking at bringing tools, dogs and personal items as we are relocating to Central America temporarily!

  What is a suggested route from Puerto Vallarta to San Diego. We are in no rush, only will drive in daylight hours and need to overnight where we can find a pet friendly hotel/motel. Any special issues with entering the US with a Mexican plated car. We will have our dog's health certificate issued in Mexico, will we need another health certificate 4 weeks later when we return to Puerto Vallarta? Thanks.
