I don't think Pet co will hurt the Pet zoo much if at all. I worked for years and years for Lamonts and then Gottchalks and when Freddy's opened it only stung for a month or two then it all went back to normal. Competition is good for business.

Beware of Pet co fish. I had entire tanks whiped out. 19 tanks of fish is a lot to replace let me tell you! Pet zoo in Anchorage did okay by me but if you are serious about fish you need to stick with Coral fanatics in Anchorage. Tim will do right by ya

Linda Miller, Pet zoo is owned by a large national chain of pet stores. It is not a local owned business. I was at one time such but has not been for many years now.

The original company was Alaska Animal Food Warehouse, with it's wholesale Distributer name Sunny day Distributing. It was started by very nice locals, out of his garage selling Eagle Dog Food. After the original storefront, A Canadian bought into partnership, they opened the larger store what is now the Harley shop, and so a very successful local company took off. Through great customer Service, and only the best premium foods, the company grew. Opening stores in anchorage, and Eagle River and relocating and splitting in the valley, geez, it's amazing what the little business grew into. Passing up other locally owned small companies a long the way. In recent years and many more changes the company was sold. (Last I heard) was to Animal Supply in Washington state. That is just what happens to a successful company.....they don't stay small. But they don't have to sacrifice customer service and premium product.....I hope that opening pet co will make the Animal Food/Pet Zoo Company step it up a notch. There is no comparison now to the old company I worked for, 1997-2001. The status quo has worked, as there has been no competition. From what I have heard, Pet Smart is not going to be far behind. And as for horse stuff? M Bar D is in the valley already. Competition makes for improvement!

Pet Zoo is not local anymore..

I've heard it's Pet Co also. Will be good to have some more competition in the valley for pet products. Does not help with livestock though. And FYI Pet zoo/Pet Warehouse is not an Alaskan owned company. Hasn't been for years now.

Pet zoo charges $15 for the same fish that Petco charges $6 for. I like Petco because I like saving $$.

^^^^see pet zoo is not a chain they are locals with more than one store in the area. Did you know you can buy fresh farm eggs at Animal Warehouse? Yum!
Kayleigh T. replied:
I have no reason to hate Petco. Yeah they're a chain, but they've gone as far as getting rid of anything made in China. Doubt they will price match. But I still have no reason otherwise to switch all of my business to Pet Zoo, I'm not a penny pincher, my dog's food isn't the cheapest. Some things I do buy at Petzoo, that they don't offer elsewhere, and to me, Petco's selection is better.
Kayleigh T. replied:
I for one like Petco, I am all for local businesses but my dog's food is $30 MORE at Pet zoo for the SAME bag that I get elsewhere. And is much closer to me than the Animal Food Warehouse.
