  Question from the Inbox ~ We are a family of 4 (2 kids ages 5 & 3) and trying to decide whether to live on post or off. Where would be the best and safe places to live on Oahu within a reasonable distance/commute to Tripler? If you live on base, which community has the best/larger homes? How are the public elementary schools? What preschools or day-care do you recommend in the area? What gyms do you recommend for gymnastics for the kids as well as dance studios?

  Now on to the subject of Hawaii. I have lived in Hawaii housing, and outside of housing. In the early days we had to live out in town because housing was full, but the last time we were stationed there we choose to live out in town the whole time. We actually bought a house in Waikele. So for my two cents I get more house for my BAH out in town that I do in housing. However, that is a personal preference. My advice is find a real estate agent - )I know one, but I don't know if she helps people find rentals but if she doesn't I know she know who could help. I can give you her name if you like. - and take a look at what's out there in your price range. Then look at what housing has to offer.
