Here's a radical plan for Starbucks - open some specialty stores that have decent coffee that doesn't taste like you dug it out of the bottom of a campfire ring. You know, coffee that tastes like the coffee the local coffeehouses have like Dilettante, Fuel, Cafe Vita, Cafe Ladro etc...
Starbucks literally put a store every block in downtown Seattle to drive everyone else out of the area. We walked up to one of the tourist police downtown and asked "Where's the nearest coffee shop that..." and he finished with "that isn't Starbucks? Up the street 5 blocks on the right there's a Cafe Ladro". Apparently he gets that question a lot.
BTW, I like his philosophy on government and commerce but I think his coffee sucks.
