Here's a weird one for classical nerds. I'm reading an ancient copy of one of Pluvinel's books, and was intrigued that many of the horses in the illustrations are wearing blinkers that cover their eyes. I've just reached the part of the text where the king asks Pluvinel why he works some horses in blinders, and he says it's partly for the very rare horse that is so temperamental that (if my French is right) it is in any case blind with anger, and partly for horses with poor concentration.
Does anyone know of more recent examples of trainers using blinders à la Pluvinel? It's a fascinating footnote.
