I don't know many cobblers and shoe repair in the Bay Area itself, but I was in Downtown Berkeley not too long ago and a co-worker of mine told me there was the best shoe repair shop called Model Shoe Renew. I decided to stop by and check it out, and they had a huge selection of shoes, clogs, wallets, and leather handbags. I was confused at first because I thought I would walk into a shoe repair shop, anyway I walked towards the back, and sure enough I saw the Owner (Peter) and he greeted me around the shop. I talked with him discussing about repairing my expensive leather shoes and boots, and bringing in my wife leather handbags, purses, shoes, and other leather goods for repair. After briefly talking with him for 10 minutes, I decided I would buy myself a nice medical clog called Sanita, because I stand for hours at my job. Peter gave me a 10% discount for being a first time customer, and told me to come back with my stuff for repair. I came back 3 days later on Saturday, and he recognized me in line and called out my name! I was very impressed with the way he handled everyone in line, and when I finally got to him, I dropped off 12 items for repair. He took in my Leather Ferragamo Dress shoes, Cole Haan Suede Boots, and my Gucci Men's belt to have the strap shortened. On my wife side I dropped off a Louis Vuitton handbag for strap repair, and leather patching. He also took in my wife Christian Louboutin High heels to get heel repair, and a lot of her other high quality leather shoes for shoe repair. I came back again, 4 days later and picked up everything. Not only did he do the best job I've seen, but he also included leather conditioning for free! He water proofed the Seude on my cole Haan boots, and overall had the most positive experience I've ever had. If you guys are looking for the best shoe repair, I highly recommend Model Shoe Renew, for I think it is the best shoe repair in the Bay area. (and quite possibly all of san francisco too.)

  I was just about to say Model Shoe Renew, as well. But they ALWAYS LOSE the shoes! I end up behind the counter, helping them hunt down my shoes. Sooo unnecessary and frustrating.

  You can also just get the heel repaired, which might be cheaper than a new pair- and might be quicker if they are in good shape otherwise. I've repaired a few of the heels on my work/dress shoes. Gone to http://www.yelp.com/biz/model-shoe-renew-berkeley and had positive experiences w/ timeliness/cost/ etc.
