Seeking recommendations for an honest mechanic I'm seeking an honest mechanic here in Austin. I have exclusively had bad experiences with mechanics trying to take advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. Too bad for them I have an awesome spidey sense and can tell when people are bullshitting me. Plus I have a mechanic friend who has busted every car diagnostics I've paid for.
My brakes went out and I need to fix them TODAY.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know!

5 Yelp stars averaged among 299 reviews is the best in Austin: Juke Auto 924 Shady Ln East Austin Austin, TX 78702 (512) 385-5853http://www.yelp.com/biz/juke-auto-austin-2 I happily take all of my cars to Juke Auto.
Can anyone recommend an honest mechanic in Austin? Every time a mechanic sees that I'm a girl they try to charge me upwards of $250 for a $10 part and 20 minutes worth of work or tell me things are wrong with my car that I know for a fact aren't.
I have to replace the brake light switch on my Hyundai Sonata 2008. I have the part already and I know it's an easy fix (unscrew and screw back in) but unfortunately I have no idea how to use tools and I'm afraid to try for the first time on something so sensitive.
Does anyone have any recommendation for a mechanic that is honest? Or does anyone know how to make this switch and would be willing to teach me for a nice lunch and some drinks?
As always, thanks for the help Reddit :)

Juke Auto is great! http://www.yelp.com/biz/juke-auto-austin-2 See they are a mechanic AND have 5 stars on yelp. Not to toot yelp's horn, but I think that speaks loud and clear.
Anyone in Austin know of a good mechanic who doesn't charge an arm and a leg? Preferably around East Riverside? I might need a tow. My van won't start even with a jump. It's a Chevy Express 1500. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Next question, honest affordable mechanic close to S. Congress area?
Just because my engine light has been on for years doesn't mean it's going to pass " this time"....

On the hunt for a good auto repair shop in Austin with Volkswagen experience. I have worn out my patience and trust with two of the big specialty VW shops in town. Anyone have a place they recommend?

i dunno if juke auto does vw but you can call and check. that dude is upstanding and honest and does a good job...i cannot recommend him highly enough. his yelp reviews are out-of-control positive and entirely justified: http://www.yelp.com/biz/juke-auto-austin-2
My car insurance agent told me some mechanics will "waive or discount the deductible." Does such a place exist in Austin? I popped a curb and bent the sub-frame (I think that's what it's called) on my car, so now my wheels are not aligned properly and it's not safe to drive. So my car needs about $2000 in repairs, and in talking with my insurance agent today, he told me that some mechanics/shops will "waive the deductible" or at least heavily discount it so that I'm not paying the full $500. Does anyone know of a trustworthy, good mechanic that will do this in Austin? I can't afford $500 right now, but I really REALLY can't afford to not have a car, since I work in South Austin and live in North Austin. :( any help/advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
