  Gina, it's cheaper to run good detergent like Cascade complete, I occassionally run "Finish" thorugh my 15 year old Maytag dishwasher and it make mine look brand new. The stainless pops. Fair Lawn water isn't that bad, never ruins clothes etc. But I have (and don't use very often) a system installed well by http://www.jaysoncompany.com/services/water-service/water-conditioning-a-water-softening.html I use Brita filters for my Kuerig and ice. The Salt refills are a pain on the water softening system.
