I'm looking for an extensive inspection, not a quickee. I'm looking for probably a 2-4 year old vehicle, no specific make/model in mind so could be foreign or domestic. I'd probably start by calling any dealers, i.e., if I'm interested in a Kia, I'd call Beaverton Kia to see if they do inspections. If anyone knows any reputable shops for pre-purchase inspections, I'd love to know their names/locations and what they charged you if you used them.

  Hi there - I have gone to Tom Dwyer Automotive for years and years and always had honest, courteous, and above all good mechanical service. They are in Sellwood at the east end of the Sellwood Bridge. Might be worth noting (this is a big selling point for me but maybe not others) that Tom himself is very active and visible in the Progressive community here in Portland. So every liberal/progressive bumper sticker in the world is available in their front office. He does a lot of sponsorship and some commentary on KPOJ. Anyway, all the guys there have been really great over the years, and I highly recommend giving them a try. Their #is 503-230-2300.
