Jaime graduated in 1998 from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in microbiology and a master's degree in genetics then worked for a couple years doing medical research. She missed the beauty that art brought to her life and decided to pursue art full time. She has studied art throughout the country, most notably at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia, PA and The Art League in Alexandria, VA.
She now paints and teaches art full time from her studio located in an old theater building in historic Ligonier, Pennsylvania, about an hour east of Pittsburgh. Her work is represented by Patricia Hutton Galleries in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Jaime is moved to paint images with a soft focus and vintage feel inspired by her travels around America and abroad. She loves the tasteful use of gorgeous color and soft light to submerge the viewers of her art into the world she sees. Her science training has given her a great understanding of the natural world and she likes to place people into context and tell a story with her paintings. Jaime will frequently begin paintings on location and then bring them back to the studio for completion. She also likes to create narratives in her still life paintings by using a careful arrangement of vintage objects that would fit into any traditional home. In addition to gallery paintings, Jaime also does several commissions a year, including portraits.
Her work resides in collections across the United States and has been in numerous exhibitions and juried shows. She has won awards ranging from People's Choice to Best in Show. In 2013 she was awarded a Women in the Arts award by the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 2008 she was one of five artists invited to participate in "Portraits of the Eastern Frontier" at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
In addition to teaching private students in her studio, Jaime teaches drawing and oil painting at the Greensburg Art... show more

Does anyone in the area do painting lessons for children? I have a budding artist who wants some lessons.
Jaime C. replied:
Thank you guys for the kind comments. Yes, I do private lessons for children 6 years and older as well as teens and lots of adults. Give me a call 724-771-4102 or email jacooperartist@gmail.com for more info. My hours in the studio (next to The Finishing Touch in the theater building) are irregular, due to teaching, my own artwork, and meetings with clients and art galleries. I teach at all times though, we just find a time that works for the student and for me.
