I like the Buoy Bar. Its on the side of the bay toward Point Lookout but still awesome around sunset. http://www.buoybarli.com/ Not waterfront but still good : http://jettylb.com/

Like it was mention in here, not many places in Long Beach actually on the water. In Point Lookout, Buoy bar is excellent. Great spot with the sunset too! If your dead set on Long Beach, I cant recommend LB Social enough. Hands down my favorite place to eat, no water view but excellent food and cocktails.

Aside from dinner / drinks at the Allegria Hotel, the restaurants in Long Beach are a few blocks from the beach and won't offer a waterfront view. If you're willing to go a little further east to Point Lookout, Buoy Bar will be on the water (the bay side). Their seafood is pretty good; the ambiance and vibe is sweet.
Specifically for Long Beach, Speakeasy has the best food, but that isn't a "beachy" or "Summer-like" environment at all. However, their food is by far better than anyone else on the West End strip.
Beach House is a good bet (before 8-9pm if you want less of a club-like environment). That is a favorite that combines the vibes of Summer with good food. Saloon has pretty good food too, and a good environment, especially if it's nice outside and the outdoor patio is open.
Any suggestions for places to eat by the water? Thanks

Peters clam bar good also, love the Buoy Bar, but it's more like a bar with food, than a restaurant. Also very tough to park there. The Point Lookout Clam Bar next door is great food and same owners as fisherman's catch. Hmm I'm starting to think maybe I should be a restaurant reviewer!!!
