Hardware Install
What is hardware?
Hardware, in the computer world, refers to the physical components that make up a computer system. There are many different kinds of hardware that can be installed inside and connected to the outside, of a computer.
Here are some common individual computer hardware components that you'll often find inside a modern computer case:
Motherboard,
Computer Processing Unit (CPU),
Random Access Memory (RAM),
Power Supply,... show more
Video Card,
Hard Drive (HDD),
Solid-State Drive (SSD),
Optical Drive (e.g. BD/DVD/CD drive),
Card Reader (SD/SDHC, CF, etc.)
Here is some common hardware that you might find connected to the outside of a computer:
Monitor,
Keyboard,
Mouse,
Battery Backup (UPS),
Printer,
Speakers.

Memory Install
What is memory and how do I know if I have enough?
RAM (random access memory) is the place in a computer where the operating system, application programs, and data in current use are kept so that they can be quickly reached by the computer's processor. RAM can be compared to a person's short-term memory and the hard disk to the long-term memory. The short-term memory focuses on work at hand, but can only keep so many facts in view at one time. If short-term memory fills up, your brain sometimes is able to refresh it from facts stored in long-term memory. A computer also works this way. If RAM fills up, the processor needs to continually go to the hard disk to overlay old data in RAM with new, slowing down the computer's operation. Knowing how much memory your PC has is one thing, but knowing whether that amount is enough is entirely different! The amount of memory your PC needs depends largely on the memory requirement of your software and the number of programs you run at once.
What is include in my memory install?
*Install up to two sticks of RAM into your computer of choice.
*Verify RAM is recognized by the BIOS and operating system.
*Test computer for proper functionality.

Computer tune up
What Does it Mean to Tune Up a Computer?
Out of the box, a new computer, whether it's running Windows or Mac, usually seems downright sprightly. After several months or a year, most people notice a drop-off in performance. After 18 months to two years, the machine you once adored is usually subject to cursing, fist-shaking, and perhaps occasional weeping, as you watch it fail to load any program or Web page this century. Your once fast computer has turned into a sluggish and lumbering oaf.
Sometimes these problems are caused by bad Internet connections or very outdated hardware, but very often, the root problem isn't one thing alone. It's a lot of little things that have built up, like duplicate files, unneeded downloads, and the remnants of programs that never uninstalled properly. Tuning up a computer cleans out all this garbage and tidies up a few other areas that help the machine run smoother and more reliably.
What is included in my PC tune up? (don't sweat it if you don't know what all these things mean):
*Diagnose performance problems and provide estimates for solutions.
*Defragment the disk.
*Repair and clean the system registry.
*Delete unnecessary files and duplicate files.
*Uninstall and Remove programs that did not properly uninstall previously.
*Check for driver updates.
*Remove data you don't need related to your internet browsers.
*Activate existing security software (software and installation not included).
*Remove dust from inside the computer; including fans and components.

Data backup or transfer
What is Data Back-up Anyway?
Backup should be an essential part of your computing experience if you spend great amounts of time on your computer and/or use your computer for important personal or business dealings. There are too many stories of people who have lost all of their files due to system crashes or computer viruses to ignore. When you backup your files, you are storing your files separately from your computer. In this way, if your computer crashes or is infected with a virus that results in a loss of files, you will still have access to your files on backup disks. You can then restore your files to your computer proper from these backup sources. For many people, their computer stores a lot of important and valuable information – your small business accounts, childhood photos and movies, a chunk of your music collection and more. It’s important to make a backup copy of these items in case malicious software (malware) destroys or deletes data or your computer is physically damaged or stolen.
Why do I need to transfer my files?
When you buy a new computer, you start with a clean slate, which is great, but you don't have any of your documents or settings from your old computer. Luckily, we can help transfer all your files and settings from your old computer to the new one—whether you're on Windows or a Mac.
What is included in my data back up or transfer?
*Backup or transfer your data from one device to another (can be a computer or an external hard drive)
*Install manufacturer's software and configure automated back-ups if data is backed up to an external device.
*Create a DVD of up to 9.4 GB of your backup data.

Operating System install
What is an operating system?
An operating system is the most important software that runs on a computer. It manages the computer's memory, processes, and all of its software and hardware. It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to speak the computer's "language." Without an operating system, a computer is useless.
Types of operating systems
Operating systems usually come preloaded on any computer you buy. Most people use the operating system that comes with their computer, but it is possible to upgrade or even change operating systems. The three most common operating systems for personal computers are Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
What is included in my OS install?
*Clean and format hard drive to ready for OS install.
*Format hard drive and allocate the correct partitions for maximum performance
*Install operating system of choice

Data Recovery
**$50 down payment on all data recovery**
What is data recovery?
In the most simple terms, "data recovery" refers to the process of recovering data from a hard drive, removable disk, or other type of electronic storage media (such as a backup tape drive, RAID array, server, database, flash memory, etc.) when the data is no longer accessible via normal means.
There are many ways to store data: hard drives, removable disks, CDs or DVDs just to name a few. No matter how reliable these storage products might be, any mechanical or electronic device can fail to function normally. In addition, there are many non-failure-related causes of lost or inaccessible data, such as accidentally deleting files, formatting/repartitioning a disk, or a forgotten password. Sometimes disaster strikes and a storage device might physically be unusable, such as in the case of a fire, a spill or other damage. When normal methods for accessing data fail, data recovery is the process we use to regain safe, reliable access to that data.
What is included in my data recovery?
*Diagnose drive or media containing data to be recovered
*Recover files that were accidentally deleted from a working drive
*Recover files from a formatted or failing drive that require advanced recovery methods or a custom recovery solution
*Recover files from a drive that is physically damaged or require extreme recovery procedures
*Transfer data to new hard drive or flash drive. (We will have them in stock if the client does not have the above hardware)
NOTE: Hard drive must be working. If the computers hard drive is failing we will do what we can, if the recovery fails we will give back your hard drive and down payment. You must take it to someone who has the advanced facility’s and equipment to save your data.
LEVEL 3 REPAIR
Malware/virus & spyware removel
What exactly is a malware/virus or spyware?
"Malware" is a term for any software that gets installed on your machine and performs unwanted tasks, often for some third party's benefit. Malware programs can range from being simple annoyances (pop-up advertising) to causing serious computer invasion and damage (e.g., stealing passwords and data or infecting other machines on the network). Additionally, some malware programs are designed to transmit information about your Web-browsing habits to advertisers or other third party interests, unbeknownst to you.
What are the types of malware?
Some categories of malware are:
Virus - Software that can replicate itself and spread to other computers or are programmed to damage a computer by deleting files, reformatting the hard disk, or using up computer memory.
Adware - Software that is financially supported (or financially supports another program) by displaying ads when you're connected to the Internet.
Spyware - Software that surreptitiously gathers information and transmits it to interested parties. Types of information that is gathered includes the Websites visited, browser and system information, and your computer IP address.
Browser hijacking software - Advertising software that modifies your browser settings (e.g., default home page, search bars, toolbars), creates desktop shortcuts, and displays intermittent advertising pop-ups. Once a browser is hijacked, the software may also redirect links to other sites that advertise, or sites that collect Web usage information.
What is included in my malware/virus & spyware removal?
*Diagnose and troubleshoot one computer of your choosing.
*Remove all malware such as spyware, rootkits, viruses, adware, ect...

Custom Built Computers 349.99 for labor
(parts not included)
What exactly is a custom built computer ?
A custom-built (or assembled) PC is a personal computer system that is assembled from components selected by the end-user; it may be assembled by the end user or a system builder. The advantage of custom assembly is the components can be selected to match the user's application. Manufacturer options of mass-produced computers may not meet the specific requirements of an end user. Since a wide range of standardized low-cost interchangeable hardware is available, most custom-built computer systems are IBM PC compatible or Wintel-type; however, Macintosh, Amiga, and other types can not be custom built because of patents and licenses for their hardware, firmware, software, and design as an integrated solution.
Reasons to have a custom built personal computer include:
*To determine what one wants and needs in regard to quality, price, and availability;
*To make a computer customized to fit the user's needs;
*To recycle an older computer, or to upgrade internal components such as the motherboard, CPU, Video Card, etc.;
*To have a high end computer for gaming, multimedia, or other demanding tasks;
*To avoid trial software and other commission-driven additions and modifications that increasingly are made to mass-market computers prior to their being shipped (commonly referred to as bloatware); and
*Being able to make modifications to the original build at a later date with little hassle.
What is included in my custom build?
*One on one consultation to determine what your wants and needs are in a personal computer.
*We then can go through together and design it to your exact specifications.
*Once parts arrive STAR-TECH will start building right away.
*We will then configure and put it through rigorous testing to ensure best performance possible.
*premium service plan that includes three years tech support and parts and labor.
