  Summer Trip Destinations in TN/NC So I'm planning a cabin trip this August for a week in western North Carolina/eastern Tennessee, but I've never been to the area before. We were hoping to stay near the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I'd like to be able to get out to Great Smoky Mountain NP once or twice if that's possible. Are there any towns/areas around there that you'd recommend? I've heard about Boone, Blowing Rock, and Asheville, what are people's thoughts on those towns as far as nearby hiking goes? We're looking for day hikes and sightseeing around the mountains mostly, maybe some stuff within a nearby town but that's not super necessary. Thanks in advance!

  I was in that area last May for waterfall hiking. The area is loaded with great hikes. See: https://www.hikewnc.info/ I stayed at hotels in Sapphire and Marion. My husband and I would like to take a little trip this weekend somewhere that's scenic and has some little shops. We're not big partiers so we're not looking for a clubbing scene.
