Thank you for your emergency vet recommendations.
My dog was attacked by coyote in our backyard yesterday at 630 am. My husband had cut his toe pretty badly (and may need a dr for that--an aside!) when he was taking Mocha outside for his early morning run. He stepped inside to dress the wound, and that is when it happened. The doctor told me they have seen four dogs this month from Forster Ranch alone attacked by coyotes. For whatever reason, they are increasing in number and becoming more aggressive.
In our backyard, I can say that we have a six-foot fence backed by a slope of 4+ feet. This is what had kept them out the past 16 years. Our fence was being repaired however from damage due to a recent storm, and this is how the coyote was able to enter our yard.
Certainly, the coyotes are more aggressive and higher in number than we have ever seen them in the past. We have watched them pace across the street from our house in broad daylight in recent months. They definitely are more bold than ever, and it is true, they will find a way into your yard and they will gain access to your pet. We are proof that you must stand by your dog at all times, anywhere outside, and be prepared to defend them.
(This coyote was a rather large one. It is a miracle my bichon survived and came out of it as well as he has.)
In the end, thankfully, because of all your kind recommendations, we found the best possible care for our dog.
I will be posting a separate update on Mocha this morning after our follow-up visit to the vet. For now, he is doing miraculously well.
And I thank all of you for your care, concern & well-wishes!
