Does anyone know where I can get glofish in Edmonton, sherwood park or st albert?
Rick O. replied:
Copied from this site http://www.glofish.com/about/faq/ Why can’t I buy GloFish in Australia, Canada, or Europe? At present, Australia, Canada, and Europe prohibit the marketing of any genetically modified organisms, including our tropical fluorescent fish, until they are cleared through an extremely complex and costly review process. For now, due to the time, expense, and uncertainty involved with the approval process, we have no plans to pursue approval in any of these jurisdictions.
Destiny R. replied:
Oh wow. Didn't know that. They even have the glofish tanks at big Al's. I bought one because I liked the lights. Have they always been illegal?
Conrad L. replied:
Glofish are so cool :o
Jennifer B. replied:
FYI they are illegal to import but only if you get caught lol The pink danios at AC are glofish (trademarked name) and apparently illegal to breed without licence from glofish who trademarked/copyrighted the fish, since they originally genetically spliced the originals who breed true to the splicing naturally.
Rick O. replied:
True Glofish are not dyed or dipped. They were genetically modified and their offspring are born glowing as well. The gentic modification is why they are illegal here. I do agree that dying or dipping is inhumane.
Janet W. replied:
There's no glofish at pet smart were talking about a fish that's only available in the states cause it's genetically altered
I can't tell you WHY (I'm sure others can) but I can tell you I have seen water clearing drops at the pet store.
