About us
Historic Boy Scout Troop 107, sponsored by the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, was honored by Decatur City Commission in a November 21 proclamation recognizing its 100th Anniversary in 2011. Saturday, December 3, has been proclaimed Boy Scout Troop 107 Day in the city. Decatur’s Troop 107 is the oldest Boy Scout troop in the metropolitan Atlanta area and one of the oldest in the nation. It was founded in the fall of 1911 by George Scott Candler, a young school principal in Decatur. Candler had been active in church youth work and promised to commit “as many hours as it requires” to establish scouting in Decatur. Attorney Charles D. McKinney was also listed in the 1911 application and provided early leadership for the troop. The Boy Scouts of America had been founded only a year earlier, so Decatur’s troop was one of the first to be established in this country. - See more at: http://oakhurstgaorg.ipower.com/?p=906#sthash.1CX7anI6.dpuf
