About us
We are part of a network of groups who are desperately trying to bring relief to the refugees in Calais. Men, women and children who have fled war torn countries in desperation, only to find themselves in the most awful conditions imaginable. Dire living conditions, police brutality and hostility are awaiting... Some women have given birth on this perilous journey for 'refuge'. Their plight is inconceivable.
Why should we help? Regardless of your political stance on immigration EVERY human being has the right to food, clothing and shelter. It is a basic human right that can be met with basic human kindness - from those who are able to assist. A small contribution from us will have very little impact on our daily lives but it will have a huge effect on theirs..
After hearing about the group Calais - people to people solidarity - action from UK , we decided to set up a local group, initially to make one trip to Calais with essential items to at least provide a basic standard of living for the refugees.
The response to our group has been so overwhelming that we have decided to make it something more permanent and are already planning our second trip to Calais before Christmas.
We have been liaising with a charity called the harbour project, based in Swindon so hopefully they can vouch for our authenticity :) also one of our team members works for a local homeless charity.
We are accepting both monetary donations and items that are needed by the refugees which are available on a constantly updating list. All goods donated will be taken to the Secours Catholique. The cash donated will be used to buy items such as books sleeping bags, emergency silver blankets and food, as well as some luxuries including sweets for the children.
We will be visiting the camp known as "The jungle" and will be taking pictures and videos of our journey to share with this page and all of our supporters.
