Just found my spare pair still in the box (as bought 2 pairs as so good) they're Karrimoor Pace and they come in loads of colours if you look on the sports direct website. I'm usually a 6 but found them a bit short on the toe for me so bought size 7's and really good no slipping, but best to try instore.

If you don't want to spend a fortune might be worth looking at More Mile Cheviots - they are an own brand and get quite good reviews.

Saloman Goretex are very good. I wouldn't go for a size bigger as it's asking for blisters - try them with the socks you intend using and get a good fit. The thinner black, waterproof Sealskinz socks are really good and comfortable, especially if you go for shoes/trainers that are easily over-topped in soggy or wet ground.
