Newport is great! Cliff walk around the mansions - beautiful! Lots of cute shops/restaurants... The mansions are great to visit! Agree with all Don's picks! Block Island is fab too! Great for biking, walking, beaching... cute shops and restaurants! Really beautiful place! Watch Hill is gorgeous too!! RI is a former home state of mine and I love it! Usually try to go in the summer for a visit...but thinking Fall this year! Go!!
Don A. replied:
I have not been to Block Island since I was a kid. I remember the beach and shops were not close but it is quite a bit more relaxed and plenty of ocean views. You would need some transportation. Mopeds or bikes are very popular. Narragansett and Galilee are nice too. Not many shops though. Maybe Watch Hill? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch_Hill,_Rhode_Island
Gail R. replied:
Theresa Reynolds, Watch Hill looks gorgeous but I'm only seeing 3 inns and they are waaaay out of my price range. Also, help me understand the difference between Watch Hill and Waverly.

Ocean Dunes in Wells, Maine . . . . .. right on the beach. We love it there.

I hated Newport. So touristy, crowded and expensive. We love Bar Harbor! Plus, you get to see the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain at the first point the sun peeks across the globe. Magical!

We live so close to the ocean here so I don't get to Block Island. Many friends have gone! It might be a mini Nantucket. Here is a link http://www.blockislandinfo.com/

Once you figure out where you want to go you should check out https://www.airbnb.com/ Josh and I have used it numerous times in Boston, Chicago and California. All were great experiences. Lots of luck and let us know where you end up for a beach getaway.

I am not sure of the vegetarian options, but I really like Restaurant Navona on New Scotland Ave. The Tagliatelle Bolognese is my favorite dish. I have had their Margherita pizza and it was fabulous.

There's this place called "Bob's Burgers" that I hear is pretty good. Not sure how upscale it is though.

Umana is very worth checking out, and not like anything else around.

Went on a date to Mio Posto on Lark the other night and the food was hands down incredible. I usually think Italian is overrated but this was incredible. Pricey, but classy, cozy, and exceptional food.

If you want upscale and don't mind price, check out Angelo's 677 prime.

[Peck's Arcade](http://www.pecksarcade.com/menu) is a vegetable focused restaurant. The hierarchy there is essential vegetables > pasta ≥ fish > meat. The price point and atmosphere should essentially be the same as New World Bistro Bar. I recommend the roasted carrots, celery root caesar, and mushrooms. All very good, but I really love the roasted carrots.

Another vote for Mio Posto.

It isn't upscale, but my GF and my favorite vegetarian place to go is Paravar (on Central next to Grandma's). It is an Indian grocery store with an authentic Indian Street Food restaurant in the back. The entire menu is vegetarian and about half of it is Vegan. IMO hands down best Indian food in Albany.

Umana is a good place! They have a lot of vegetarian options too. I always say they're a good place for both picky and adventurous eaters too. Chez Nous in Schenectady is damn good and great atmosphere. Could be a little pricy but nothing outrageous and they have a prix fixe menu during the week.
