How old is your house? Older homes have galvanized pipe and they will corrode completely shut sometimes.

You could try one of the things that shoots a big burst of air down the pipe. Not sure what the formal name is but my husband called it a blowball. I have used H & H Plumbing for jobs at my house. Really great to work with. Their number is 218-2401.

Go to Ankeny Hardware (Ace) - they have some stuff you can pour down and it works! It's pretty heavy duty but that was my last resort before calling a plumber and it cleared a drain with standing water.

I called Mike Mike Horning who owns Mikes Plumbing and backhoe. Water heater took a crap on Saturday night and he came over within an hour and put a new water heater in for me, very reasonable 208-3681
