I'm looking for a psychiatrist Does anyone have a good recommendation? I like Adlerian Psychology, but I've never been to a psychologist or psychiatrist before. I've...

I see a psychiatrist at MCG or whatever you want to call it, however there can be a wait. If you're looking for a therapist there are some good ones at Resolution Counseling. Also if you are already seeing a therapist they can usually help you find a psychiatrist. Personally I would avoid Serenity if you can, at least the one in S.Augusta

Dr Quamme, I don't have her info right now, I'll edit later with it if you need. Probably on Google too.

I would disagree with most comments here and strongly suggest not using the Augusta University mental health. It took me 3 months to get an initial appointment. I saw a resident with a brief stop in by the attending. They wanted to see me back in no more than 6 weeks, but the next appointment available was 3 months, which they then canceled a few weeks later. On top of all that, they messed up the billing and I still haven't received the referral to a psychologist. They just seem amazingly understaffed, and I was very unhappy with the care.

If you are already getting medication prescribed to you, you may be looking for a psychologist rather than a psychiatrist. Are you looking for weekly-monthly psychotherapy? A psychiatrist typically does not provide therapy, or if he/she does, it would probably be every 6+ weeks (when you need to get meds checked up on). I would recommend Augusta University (formerly MCG) Psychiatry and Health Behavior which is located on St. Sebastian Way (number is 706-721-6597). You can call and give them information about your insurance and therapy needs and they will take it from there. They provide a variety of therapies as well as child/family therapy, couples therapy, and some groups. They also have psychologists and psychiatrists who communicate well with one another to meet your needs. As far as Adlerian Psychology, is there a reason you are seeking that particular model? For many problems (e.g., anxiety/depression) cognitive behavioral therapy is empirically supported. Most therapists do integrate a variety of models however.
